Responsibilities:
Responsible for Civil and Structural Engineering related tasks as assigned, with minimal to moderate guidance, in support of Electrical Substation design.
Performs structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation design. Generates structural steel and concrete details. Having experience in design of other materials a plus (wood, CFS, masonry).
Develops structural analysis model and designs steel structures and equipment support foundations. Having experience with bent-plate tapered-tube steel structures is a benefit. Also utilizes in-house developed design tools.
Designs construction Civil drawings consisting of site plan, grading/drainage plans, and foundation plans.
Applies a working knowledge of common Civil Engineering design codes including IBC, ASCE-7, ANSI/AISC-360, and ACI-318. Preferred candidates will have experience with ASCE-113 and NESC.
Works with and under the supervision and mentoring of the Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer while working toward a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility.
Is capable of performing general Civil/Structural Engineering analysis and design, Auto-CAD drafting, occasional field work, and other assigned duties.
Assists in the preparation of calculation reports and packages, steel fabrication shop drawing review, and construction submittal review.
Performs drafting as needed of construction plans, steel fabrication shop drawings, and other substation physical detail drawings.
Assigns and oversees work of designer/detailer staff to efficiently utilize availability of personnel.
Involved in staff and client communication pertaining to specific projects while working towards independent client contact and project management.
Will eventually work directly with clients and provide services such as:
Propose, develop, scope, estimate, communicate, execute, and close projects within budget and schedule.
Manage and coordinate projects.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed within the continental U.S. mostly in the greater Rocky Mountain and Great Plains region. Travel estimated to be 15%, but could vary and be cyclical.
With minimal to moderate guidance manage small projects, and support ESCs business development initiatives.
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, from an accredited School of Engineering.
Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (EIT).
PE not required, but preferred. Must be qualified to sit for the PE exam within 1yr.
Minimum three (3) years of qualified engineering experience in Civil/Structural Engineering positions.
Electrical Substation and Transmission design experience is a plus.
Initially having knowledge and an understanding of electrical design of substations is not a must, but will be given preference.
Experience with discipline design codes - IBC, ASCE-7, ANSI/AISC-360, ACI-318 - at a minimum. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with ASCE-113, ASCE-48, and the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
A working knowledge of structural and civil design software is a must, for example: RISA, CIVIL-3D, Auto-CAD, L-Pile, and Excel spreadsheet development. Experience with SAG-10, PLS-Pole, and PLS-CAD is a plus.
Must be technically competent as well as possess the ability to apply engineering reasoning and common sense to problem solving.
Personality to work with other engineering and operational personnel at small-to- medium rural cooperatives and small-to-medium municipalities as well as industrial concerns.
Problem-solving and client service orientation.
Demonstrated ability to work with highly technical staff and manage multiple tasks and objectives.
Motivated and enthusiastic; good people skills and temperament; drive and ambition to set and reach challenging goals.
Self-starter with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to communicate effectively with internal team members and external clients.
Ability to maintain and develop business with both existing and new/identified clients.
People-oriented team player.
Confident handling of the appropriate software for design purposes.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed within the continental U.S.
Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship (proper identification required).
