CIVIL DESIGNER
POSITION OVERVIEW:

Serves as Civil Designer for all phases of a project.Draws upon diversified design experience to complete difficult and complex design assignments, generally utilizing either 2D or 3D CAD methods. Understands the materials and methods normally used within the civil discipline. Develops working drawings in conformance with company and industry standards and codes. Provides technical guidance to lower-level Designers and Drafters in completing complex design assignments.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans and prepares preliminary layouts and detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches, and/or other drawings, ensuring that they meet company and industry standards and codes.Prepares civil drawings and sketches using CAD (Computer Aided Design) Autodesk Autocad, Civil 3d and Land Development.Works closely with Designers, Drafters, and Engineers from other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated design effort is maintained.

Applies standard design principles and theories to complete assignments. Produces work of a highly detailed nature under the supervision of civil engineers. Design products include layouts and detailing associated with civil site design of industrial facilities.Provides technical guidance to project design team in completing standard and complex designs for complete systems and components of a project.

Utilizes technical manuals to ensure compliance with all company policies and applicable standards and codes. Provides input to the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.

Compiles data and computes quantities in support of material takeoffs.Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

Provide leadership and guidance to junior Civil Designers.May train lower-level designers in various procedures.

Collaborates with Engineers and other disciplines to ensure quality of design.

Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter curriculum (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as 1-6 years of relevant experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Requirements include PC literacy, proficiency in AitoCad, Civil 3D or Microstation is required.

Experience in the following civil design areas is desired: Site Design, Grading, Drainage, Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer, Roads, Paving, Preparation of Specifications, Material Take-offs, Cost Estimates, Permitting Support, and Construction Inspections.
